If you think carrying a high-powered gaming laptop around means carrying a load of bricks, think again because I’m about to show you a game-changer.
Meet the MSI GS63VR Stealth. It looks like a typical four pound laptop but there’s something very different about the Stealth: It has one of these inside: Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1060.
Yes, this is Nvidia’s budget wonder card that just about gives you the performance of a $500 GPU for $250.
And no Timmy, this isn’t the dumbed-down “M” version of the desktop card. It’s basically the same superfast desktop card, but shrunk down for the laptop formfactor. It has the same amount of RAM, the same amount of memory bandwidth, and same amount of cores.
So what games can you really play with a 4 lbs. laptop? All of them. Yes, with a GTX 1060 inside, you’re looking at 60 fps in all games at Ultra settings or damn near close to it.
Doom. 60 fps.
Rise of the Tomb Raider. 60 fps.
Middle-earth: 60 fps
And yes, you can even comfortably run VR with the Stealth thus the “VR” in its name.
What are its negatives? The screen for one. The 4K panel in this model isn’t particularly bright. The speakers are pretty blah too. Battery life is also just barely adequate..
But you know what? I’ll take all those warts to get this kind of gaming performance out of a laptop this light.
You know what that means? Lunch breaks at work spent playing VR instead of Angry Birds.
